ZWIN has a team of volunteers who are specially trained by professionals. These volunteers will carry out your assessment on site and then produce a confidential report covering energy efficiency, heating, water consumption, materials, waste reduction and recycling. Frequently Asked Questions

What is involved in the assessment and how long will it take?

Firstly, our volunteers will spend about 15 to 30 minutes with you to talk about how the organisation's premises are used, whether you already have some sort of environmental policy, how the building is heated, lighting, materials consumed, purchasing sources, recycling and any specific waste production issues that you may have. They will then carry out a survey of the premises to assess how efficiently electricity, gas, water and materials are used and what waste is produced and recycled. Time taken will obviously depend on the size of the premises, but it typically is in the range of 1 to 2 hours.

When will the volunteers visit?

At a time that is suitable to you. However, please remember that the project is run entirely by volunteers and so the date and time of the assessment will also depend on when volunteers are available.

What information do I (the organistion) have to provide?

Please provide copies of the building plans (if available) and your electricity, gas/oil, water and waste collection bills over the last year. This will allow us to calculate potential cost savings for you.

Limitations of the initial environmental assessment

The assessment's objective is to provide orgainisations with a list of actions that can be taken which will result in improved environmental performance and long term financial gain. It is an initial environmental assessment and should be viewed as the first step in developing your environmental policy. All recommendations that are made within the report are offered in good faith. However, business owners or organisations who choose to carry out any of the recommendations do so entirely at their own risk. Neither the ZWIN team, the REN nor EcoAction are able to accept any responsibilities for loss or damage resulting in such action.
